CSA Frequently Asked Questions
What's in a weekly basket?
The vegetables will change with the seasons, but we will include a good variety of produce every week while trying to always include a steady stream of favorites and staples like lettuce, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, etc. A typical early season basket in April might include something like: 1 large head of butterhead, oakleaf or other gourmet lettuce, 1 lb of broccoli or asparagus, 1 large bunch of carrots or beets, 8 oz bag of baby spinach or spring salad mix, 1 head of bok choi or a bunch of kale, and a bunch of green onions. A week in July might include: 2 lb of tomatoes, 2 lbs of new pototoes, 1lb of summer squash, a cucumber, 6 ears of sweet corn, several onions, a bell pepper or a bag of okra, and a bunch of dill or Basil. A weekly delivery usually fills a Walmart sized bag to overflowing. We send out an email a few days before each delivery letting you know what to expect each week.To see a complete list of what we grow, check out our "Whats growing" page.
Does a CSA share include any fruit?
Yes! We have planted 1500 strawberry plants for our CSA members this year. Strawberry harvest is throughout the month of May. We also plan to include cantaloupe, watermelon, and blackberries in our July deliveries.
What is the Bristow Farm-stand CSA?
Our Bristow CSA delivery does not receive pre-boxed CSA bags/boxes/or baskets. All of the vegetables are set out on tables like a farmers market stand and members get to mix and match and choose what they want each week. For example, we will set up a pile of assorted varieties of head lettuce, a pile of assorted bunched greens, along with crates of tomatoes, onions, potatoes, carrots, cucumbers, and squash. Members will then get to choose something from the lettuce pile, something from the greens pile, and then pick to 5 lbs of assorted veggies from the crates. We may also have a cantaloupe, or half-dozen ears of corn or some other special treat set aside for each person. Vegetable volumes are approximately equal to or pre-bagged shares, but members get more flexibility in what they pick out.
When do deliveries start?
Deliveries begin April 8 (Tulsa) and April 9 (Bristow), lasting 15 weeks until July 15 and 16. We may have post-season deliveries later into July, depending on weather, but these will not be included in our pre-payed CSA memberships.
